Art Class at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts

Do you love making art? In addition to regular art lessons at school, talented pupils have the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular programme called the Art Class. This programme is held partly at the Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar and partly at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.

The Art Class takes place on a fixed day each week. In the school year (2024-2025), the Art Class takes place on Thursday afternoons. When the class is held at the Royal Academy in The Hague, pupils travel by coach from school to the Academy. Art Class students explore a wide variety of visual arts modules, such as Photograph, Interactive Media Design, Wood & Metal and Fashion & Textile, to name just a few. These modules are taught in blocks of five to six weeks by teachers with an academic background in the arts. A teacher from school is also always present to accompany the pupils to The Hague and to coordinate the programme.

Introduction Afternoon & Registration

If you would like to participate in the Introduction Afternoon, please sign up before 31 March 2025 by contacting Ms. de Bruin: m.debruin@rijnlandslyceum-rlw.nl

The Introduction afternoon will be held on Wednesday, 9 April 2025 at the Royal Academy of the Arts (KABK) in The Hague.

After the Introduction Afternoon, you can apply for an interview. The planned dates for the interviews are Wednesday, 7 May and Wednesday, 14 May at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar. During the interview, Ms. de Bruin and a teacher from the Academy will review your artwork and discuss your motivation for joining the programme.

Bring Your Art!

For the interview, we encourage you to bring all your recent artwork. This could include:

  • Drawings
  • Photography, collages
  • Short films and animations
  • Three-dimensional works, textiles, or pieces made from recycled materials
  • Any other creative projects you have made.

Get Inspired!

We hope the short little film gives you an impression of this programme.
