The International School Wassenaar (ISW) delivers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme and from 2023, the IB Diploma Programme. ISW is part of the Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar (RLW). Established in 1936, RLW prepares students for university and higher vocational education. RLW is one of the founding bilingual education schools in The Netherlands.
Nestled in a picturesque setting in the heart of leafy Wassenaar, within touching distance of The Hague and Leiden, ISW delivers a first-class secondary education through high standards and excellence in teaching. Our school is small enough to ensure that each child is well-known and appreciated for who they are in a warm, safe and supportive environment. Our size allows us to get to know each child’s unique background and personality including their individual goals.
Rijnlands Lyceum has grown into a foundation of six schools in The Netherlands and is affiliated with five schools abroad. Together with our sister schools we offer a unique blend of Dutch, bilingual (Dutch/English) and international primary and secondary education to approximately 7000 students.
The International School Wassenaar – Rijnlands Lyceum is an IB World School with authorisation to deliver the Middle Years Programme and for the Diploma Programme. Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar: An Excellent School
Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar is one of only a few schools in The Netherlands rated ‘excellent’ by the Ministry of Education.
In the report by the Dutch Inspectorate of Education it is stated that:
Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar has a strong focus on language development and preparing students to be global citizens. The Dutch Inspectorate clearly sees that the school realizes these ambitions, especially in terms of subject offerings, school climate and in the prevalent culture of high quality education.
The rich selection of subjects and activities that Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar offers ensures that there is something of interest for every student and that each student is sufficiently challenged. This contributes to students feeling happy, involved and valued at school.
Parents, students and teachers are very pleased with the school climate at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar. The school makes a concentrated effort to maintain a safe, high quality learning environment. To this end the school actively shapes policy to make sure that all community members feel valued and respected and to increase intercultural understanding.
The culture of high quality education is strong at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar because all staff members, from leadership to support staff, are constantly focused on optimalizing the teaching and learning, the guidance and the school climate for the students to make sure that is as good and fitting as it can be.
